The sweetest soul, the brightest light, and the most special friend

Speedy entered our lives as a 5-year-old bundle of energy from Puerto Rico. She had the biggest smile as she excitedly played fetch with her fuzzy ball on the day we met. She was just so cute and tiny but she had that big dog coolness about her. We immediately knew she would be our dog.

We loved to watch her play and run around and she was a great fetcher. She loved toys as a young dog: Kong, soccer ball, anything with a squeaker, but especially her many Lampchops. We found it funny that she’d methodically pull the fur off only the tails of her squirrel toys or just the ears off her stuffed lion, yet other times she’d open up a hole and pull all the stuffing out to find the squeaker like a little prize, leaving all the remnants in her wake.

She loved her long walks and carefully sniffing every blade of grass and telephone pole or fire hydrant to catch up on all the “news” in the neighborhood. She was funny and goofy, rolling around on her back on the grass after walks and basking in the sun. She enjoyed rolling around on her toys after a dog groomer visit to recapture “her essence.”

She absolutely loved treats and hovering around under the table while we ate or the counter while we or her grandma cooked. Sometimes she’d walk on her hind legs for a closer look. Little piece of chicken, carrot, bean, apple—it didn’t matter. Eating an apple will never be the same. When we cut one, we fully expect to hear a thump as she used to jump off the couch and prance over.

She was just so special to us. Our 10 years together were simply far too short, but we feel blessed to have had them and so lucky to have found her and that she chose our family! We love you Speedy!
